Have been searching for documentation for Elizabeth Manzer and her parents, Robert Manzer and Ellinor Lewis with no success.
Today I found a family tree, 4 generations, for a James Manzer, which ends up in Digby County, Nova Scotia about the time they were there. But alas, no Elizabeth! Robert is the 4th generation, his wife’s name is Eleanor, but they have no daughter Elizabeth. I’m stumped.
The only document is Elizabeth’s marriage record, in which both her and her father’s names are spelled Mainger. However, this appears to be an error since the name Mainger does not exist.
My word of mouth family history says Elizabeth was born in England. Her marriage record does not have her place of birth. There are tons of Elizabeth Manzer’s in England. There are tons of Manzers in the U.S. and other Canadian provinces, many of whom have the same half dozen or so surnames. Extremely confusing.
There is also a listing for Joseph and Elizabeth Abbott in the Digby census, which lists Head of St. Mary’s as Elizabeth’s birthplace. It lists George, Adelaid (Hattie) and John as children, which confirms this is the correct Elizabeth.
The Robert and Eleanor Manzer in New Tusket, Digby Co., Nova Scotia, have seven children listed, no Elizabeth. There is an Elizabeth Manzer born in 1844 but she married someone else. Robert Manzer had a sister Elizabeth, which is a good sign, but no daughter by that name.
Not giving up…
